MUDDY WATERS YOGA
JUNE 30, 2026
At Muddy Waters Yoga in Winona, Minnesota,
26 people gathered to experience Weighted Hug,
sit with the sensation, and notice what changed.

THE EXPERIENCE
Try. Notice. Switch.
Half the room wore a Weighted Hug while the other half simply noticed. We moved through a guided somatic practice, then switched. After the second meditation, we came back together and discussed what people noticed.

A LOOK INSIDE
From curiosity
to stillness.
A short film from the evening: people trying on Weighted Hug, settling in, and experiencing the practice together of holding yourself close.

THE ROOM
A different kind
of stillness.
Dani, an instructor at Muddy Waters, said she had never seen a room become that still that quickly. In a typical yoga class, it can take around forty minutes before people fully drop into their bodies.

A FIELD NOTE FROM SAMUEL JAMES
FOUNDER OF WEIGHTED HUG
They said back to me what
I had already learned in my own body.
What surprised me wasn't that people responded to Weighted Hug. It was how closely their language reflected what I had been experiencing in my own body for years. People talked about stillness. Grounding. Breath. Their minds becoming quieter. Their bodies feeling held. Watching the room settle so quickly felt like confirmation.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
"It felt like a good hug, honestly."
ALI WAGNER
"Safe. I felt the
juxtaposition of structure,
and melting into my body."
ANJELIKA KINNEY
"Increased awareness of preexisting discomfort, but increased calm and curiosity in response to it."
HARRIET FLINSCH
"Takes you out of your own head & lets you tune to your body."

AFTER MUDDY WATERS, I KNEW ONE THING.
I have to put people
in Weighted Hug.
Period.
There are things the body understands
faster than language can explain.
